PhD position: Growth, processing and characterization of surfaces for performing low energy electron catalyzed reactions
Employer: Science Institute University of Iceland
Employer URL: www.raunvis.hi.is
Application website: nanophysics.raunvis.hi.is
Application email: positions@raunvis.hi.is
Job reference: Growth of Electron catalyzed surfaces
Application deadline: 15th Agust 2011
Contact persons: Sveinn Ólafsson +354 525 4693
Description
Low energy electrons can drive bond cleavage efficiently in the condensed phase and thus generate correspondingly high density of reactive species. This is currently a research area that is attracting increasing interest both from the research community and also from the industry. The goal with this project is too harvest the solar energy to produce low energy electrons and utilize them for surface reaction. Of main interest is transformation of CO2 to CH4. Thin film growth and clean room processing will be the main project responsibility while monitoring and execution of the surface reactions will be performed in cooperation with another PhD student.
You have a recently completed M.S degree in Materials Science or Physics, preferably in the field of thin film growth clean processing and characterization. We are looking for an enthusiastic team member with excellent academic qualifications and a passion for materials research. Strong experimental skills and a pioneering mentality are essential for this project. You are able to work in close collaboration with other researchers and you have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Benefits
The Science Institute, University of Iceland offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed Internet access from home. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the standard agreement for PhD research position at the institute. The Science Institute, strives to increase the number of women in higher academic positions; women are therefore especially encouraged to apply.
